STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS TRAILER DEBUTS

A first trailer has been released for the upcoming Captain Pike spin-off series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, coming to Paramount+.

In the teaser, we see Pike (Anson Mount) riding on horseback through a snowy area before he is asked to return to Starfleet by an as-of-yet unnamed character. Evidently rejoining the fleet and returning to his crew, we see a few glimpses of alien worlds and the original NCC-1701 USS Enterprise at warp, while hearing a snippet of the 1960s TV series theme.

Check out the brilliant teaser video below:

The character of Captain Pike was created by Gene Roddenberry for the original Star Trek pilot titled The Cage, where he was played by Jeffrey Hunter. He was replaced by fictional icon Captain Kirk in the series proper after the studio wanted a different leading man in the big chair. Pike would later return in a two-parter called The Menagerie, where it was revealed the character (then played by actor Sean Kenney) had been in a devastating accident.

Other than in those three episodes, the prime timeline version of the character had rarely been touched on in live-action Star Trek, until he appeared in the second season of Star Trek Discovery, where he took on the role of interim commander for the Crossfield class science vessel after they were ordered to investigate the Red Angel entity.

In his latest adventures, the character has been played by Mount who, thanks to good writing and a rather impressive acting performance, became an instant fan favorite. After leaving the show at the end of Discovery season 2, social media users began to ask for Mount’s return in a series of his own which, according to the cast and crew, directly led to the existence of the Strange New Worlds series.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds arrives on Paramount+ on May 5, 2022, in the US.
