shazam 2

Shazam! is returning.

Following the success of 2019's light-hearted origin movie for The World's Mightiest Mortal, Warner Bros. have confirmed a sequel is in development, with a release date of April Fool's Day, 2022. No joke; the first movie made $364 million at the box office.

Director David F. Sandberg is confirmed as returning to the helm, working to a script by Henry Gayden, who wrote the first film’s screenplay. Zachery Levi is, of course, expected to return to the lead role, along with Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, plus Faithe Herman, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Ross Butler, and Jovan Armand as Billy’s foster siblings, the Marvel Family (Lady Shazam, Shazam Thunder, Shazam Strong and Shazam Lightning). The first movie's post-credits sequence also set up a return for Mark Strong's Sirvana along with evil caterpillar(!) Mr Mind.

Shazam's other main villain, Black Adam, will pop up ahead of this sequel, with Dwayne Johnson starring in the spin-off, due out on December 22, 2021. Will there be a crossover? TBC.
