OSCARS 2021 WINNERS
Chloe Zhao celebrates an historic win for Nomadland at the 93rd Oscars.
We've heard this word a lot over this past year, haven't we?
These are strange and unusual times. So it only feels natural to have a strange and unusual Academy Awards. The main location of the ceremony took place in LA's Grand Union station. Nominees were scattered across the globe and were patched in from places such as London, Paris and Sydney.
Without a host and with fewer attendees, the Oscars felt more intimate and fresher. That is until the chaotic scheduling, a bizarre quiz, a rushed In Memoriam, and an anti-climactic end made it one of the craziest Oscars to date.
However, it should not overshadow some fantastic wins and certainly the night belongs to Chloe Zhao. Making history as the first woman of colour to win Best Director, and the second woman of all time, The Eternals director happily won the prize. Nomadland, which lands on Disney+ at the end of the month, also scooped up Best Picture whilst Frances McDormand won Best Actress.
